Winning Streak Continues at Animania 2009
Interactive Media Design alumni Nguyen Doan Bao Toan, Toni (Champion) picked up more trophies at Animania 2009, an annual animation competition organised by CreativeBITS. Last year, Toni took home the top award for his animation, and have undoubtedly sealed his status as the ones to beat.

Toni’s video, in contrast, was a blend of harsh reality and surrealism. He admitted that he faced some difficulty trying to mesh his “academic research” with his surrealistic storyline, but with perseverance, he eventually produced his award-winning animation, “The Sprout”.
“With effort you can do everything,” said Toni. “Learn what you don’t know from someone else, or somewhere else, or use your own creativity to transform and create your own things.”
In fact, Toni felt that being original and distinctive was one of the key factors that helped him win. His hand-drawn images, which he has used since primary school, give his animations a style that is uniquely his. “Our own original concepts are always the most important thing,” said Toni.

After bagging Animania awards two years in a row, Toni is looking forward to bigger and better things. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours!
